A first person shooter/exploration game created by me, Lauren Baird and Eoghan Mulvenna for the 2016 Global Game Jam. The theme for the game jam was “Ritual”, which we attempted to capture in the tone and environment of the game.
The gun and the mechanics surrounding it ended up being our favourite part of the finished game and was a joint effort from all three members of the team, with assets created by Lauren and Eoghan programming the ammo system while I programmed the projectile firing and interactions. We settled on the first person shooter idea early in the development and while most of the mechanics were designed before being produced some emerged more spontaneously as a result of experimenting with various features of Unity. Hidden within the code there exists partially complete functionality for both pathfinding and map creation, endeavors which were abandoned upon discovery that Unity already offers inbuilt pathfinding and due to a lack of time respectively.
